Friday, May 3, 6–8 pm CSTpm / Saturday, May 4, 10 am–12 noon

In person or online via Zoom, $35/$70 in advance, or $45/$90 April 26 onward

Take a break from the rigors and stress of daily life in this rejuvenating wellness weekend! Held at yogaview in beautiful Chicago, or online via Zoom, you will experience yoga and learn to trust your inner guidance with Alie McManus! Beginning on Friday of this revitalizing weekend, you will relax and unwind with gentle, restorative yoga practices. Then on Saturday, you will learn ways to trust your inner guidance through meditation, deep relaxation, and yoga for everybody.

Coming Home to You

Discovering Peace within Yourself

Friday, May 3, 6–8 pm

Join Alie for this special evening of self-care. Using yoga, essential breath work, and meditation, she will guide you through a gentle practice that includes breathing techniques, precise alignment details, and subtle cuing, all of which will invite you to connect more deeply with your innermost self. Utilizing the calming benefits of restorative yoga and profound release, this asana practice is designed to draw you effortlessly into a state of relaxation, offering you the opportunity to experience greater clarity and a natural sense of peace.

Yoga for Everyone

Accessing Your Inner Guidance

Saturday, May 4, 10 am–12 noon

Yoga, in its essence, is an invitation to be effortlessly present with oneself. The practice encompasses curiosity, self-trust, kindness, compassion, self-love, and patience. Alie’s classes are progressive, so they begin gently, with each posture building on the preceding pose so that our bodies may feel safe, grounded, and expansive. One of her major goals in class is to offer an abundance of options and choices so that everyone can decide what poses are most appropriate for them and their own bodies in the moment. When we take our time, we can sense what movements, shapes, and poses feel good and what movements, shapes, and poses don’t feel so good. It is through this communion with our Selves that we learn to trust and then actively practice that trusting. When we take our time, we may gratefully accept yoga’s invitation to be present in the moment with whatever arises.

In this special class Alie will share ways for you to trust yourself, listen to your inner voice, and be open and receptive to hearing its guidance. Together, she and the class attendees will enjoy an asana practice for everyone that also brings in breathing techniques and meditation. Enjoy freedom in your body and mind, and learn ways to access your inner voice and your inner guidance. Discover that you are your own closest connection with the experience of Yoga.

To conclude the weekend on Sunday, May 5, join me at Chi Yoga Shack for "Ayurveda: The Art and Science of Living." You can consider this the third part of the Spring Wellness Retreat, or simply attend as a stand-alone class.

Ayurveda: The Art and Science of Living

Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, is an ancient system that can guide you toward optimal health. Alie is honored to be able to share the life-affirming gift of Ayurveda through this class offered at Chi Yoga Shack in Chicago. In this workshop, she will present some of the vast history, foundational elements, qualities, and energies of this 5,000-year-old system of healing.

Here you will learn ways to determine your unique constitution—otherwise known as your predominant dosha vikruti—while also discovering the many benefits of Ayurveda’s time-honored daily rituals (dinacharia), medicinal foods and spices (sadhana), and of course yoga practices. Along with discussion, you will practice pranayama and meditation to bring awareness to dosha balance, and Alie will give a demonstration on how to make medicinal ghee (clarified butter). AnAyurveda handout will be provided so you can continue your learning at home.

In 2022, Alie received her Ayurveda Yoga Specialist Certification with Kathryn Templeton and Yoga International. Education is a constant source of inspiration and life enrichment for her, and she is continuing to study and practice modalities including Embodying Safety: Incorporating Yoga, QiGong, and the Polyvagal Theory with Amelia Barili and Ayurveda Mental Health Coach Certification with Kathryn Templeton.

It is Alie’s intention to empower you to use simple and sustainable Ayurveda practices in order to experience more vibrant energy in your daily life and to bring greater peace to your own mind, body, and Spirit.

Register here. Early bird pricing (code: "EARLYBIRD") and Wellness Retreat pricing (code: "WELLNESSRETREAT") are both $35 until April 27. After April 27 the regular price will be $40, and the Wellness Retreat Participants may use the $35 discount code.

Yoga for Everyone

Let Wisconsin’s beautiful summer landscapes inspire you to reconnect with the beauty of your own internal landscape in Alie’s gentle yoga class! Here we will typically begin with breathing exercises to ground and center ourselves and calm our minds.

We will then warm up gently and move with our breath, using the postures to increase flexibility, strength, and balance. With special attention to form, we will discover our inner fluidity so that an increase in vitality helps us feel amazing. And while holding postures, using breath exercises, and being gently guided back to deep body awareness, we’ll be getting stronger and staying balanced—essential attributes for everyone. It’s important to Alie that you are not only doing the postures safely but that you also feel great doing them, so she offers precise alignment details and modifications so that you are doing the yoga pose in a way that’s appropriate for your body.

We will end our time together with profound, healing relaxation. It is Alie’s intention to help you feel your best, be your best, and do your best. Everyone is welcome in Alie’s yoga class, so please drop by! She loves requests, so don’t be shy!

Coming Home to You: Restorative and Gentle Yoga

Begin unwinding Friday evening with restorative and gentle yoga, essential breath work, and meditation. Meditation and asana go together hand in hand. Meditation can inspire us into our asana practice, and the practice of the postures can improve our comfort in meditation and daily life. Through this practice you will experience greater freedom in your body and mind, and enjoy coming home to you.

Alie McManus has studied yoga and meditation since 1994 and has been teaching since 1999. In each of Alie’s classes, she shares subtle, deep cuing, giving you tools to tune into your true essence. Alie continues to study with her primary teacher Erich Schiffmann, who taught her how to do her own yoga. Barbara Benagh has also significantly shaped Alie’s precise awareness of the beauty and intelligence of the breath, alignment, and sequencing. Alie leads global retreats, workshops, and teacher training modules, and teaches at yogaview when home in Chicago. Learn more about Alie’s schedule and offerings, or practice with Alie online at www.aliemcmanus.com.

Freedom Yoga in Millennium Park Summer 2022

I’m so excited to be back at Millennium Park this summer!

I’ll be teaching complimentary yoga classes in July. Join me Saturday, July 16, 23, and 30th from 9:00-9:45am CDT as part of Millennium Park’s Summer events series.

Millennium Park is the #1 attraction in the Midwest and among the top 10 most-visited sites in the U.S. — a destination for Chicagoans and visitors alike. It is also the anchor of the Millennium Park campus, an urban cultural district that includes the Chicago Cultural Center, Maggie Daley Park and The Art Institute of Chicago. We invite you to come experience this state-of-the-art collection of art, architecture and landscape design that provides the backdrop for dozens of free cultural events this summer.

The 2022 Millennium Park summer season offers free concerts, films, dance performances, public art, workouts and more — presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and its programming partners and made possible by the Millennium Park Foundation and others.

201 E. Randolph St., between Michigan Ave. & Columbus Ave.

Free Admission • Open Daily, 8am–9pm (visit their website for any changes in hours)

ASL interpretation will be provided for all workouts.
